project: fishtank (part 2)
continued from project: fishtank (part 1)
in my first post i never mentioned me doing the lighting and also adding the heater. so i thought i’d do it in this post as i never had pictures on me when i made that post.
my next step was to do the lighting for the tank but the current one i had was missing the vital piece, the mounting block which got lost somehow. so i went down to the petshop and got me a whole new light fitting with tube. the one i got you needed to actually put a plug onto it and i was pretty hesitant to do it because the wiring on the light fitting did not indicated which wire is “live” and which one is “earth” and they were the same colour. so i decided to guess and i guessed right the first time. thank goodness!
i had to mount the light fitting onto the lid with cable ties which worked awesomely! (sorry for bad quality pic)
then it was time for the plants and stuff. went down to the petshop to see what they had. they had some nice rocks and plants. i don’t think i am going to get any fish from them next week because while i was there i saw 3 fish in 3 separate healing tanks, dead fish in tanks. yeah, wtf. felt like asking wtf is going on.
now who thought arranging the stuff in your tank would be an easy and quick job. nothing i did i liked. the layout just seemed to miss something and i guess it’s still missing something but i don’t know what. i am ok with it now but i know i will change it sometime again. once the fish are in there is no changing of anything at all. got myself 2 tall amazons and 2 plants that go bushy. i also got 4 rocks to make a nice feature. i also added 2 bubbles features by the rocks and one by the piece of wood.
so now the next thing is to get fish. the temperature in the tank is awesome. the landscape to me looks acceptable and now to wait a couple of days so the plants can get used to the environment and see if they survive while the oxygen levels and all that come right. then it is off to the petshop! i will probably go to a place that actually looks after their fish properly. anyone in cape town know of a place? only place i do know is in brackenfell on bottlery road.
