SA blog awards rant

let me first start off by saying i am not bitter or anything regarding me not getting into the last round. i don’t care.
what i am going to rant about is the fact that some of the nominations in the next round should not even be there and i will tell you why.
this morning i got an email to say the nominations are up and we should go and vote. i go through the list and being a good person i go to each nomination’s blog to check it out and see why they have been chosen.
anyhoo, i checked out some of these and started ranting on twitter about some of them.
how can http://wikus.co.za/ be a nomination for “new best blog” it’s been dead for almost 2 years and last post was 2009 #justsaying – about 5 hours ago via TweetDeck
dieantwoord.com is NOT a blog. #justsaying – about 3 hours ago via TweetDeck
baydu.co.za is being nominated for best entertainment blog but firefox is blocking it due to “distribute harmful software” #fail – about 2 hours ago via TweetDeck
someone on twitter pointed out
This has been nominated for an award and doesn’t seem to exist: http://parklife.za.net/
a few other people shared their disgust about the whole thing. there are others that have ranted and raved about it on their blogs too.
*UPDATE*
Chris has been so kind so give us an update and said that they have fixed www.parklife.za.net link, notified baydu.co.za of his little malware attack on the site and they have removed dieantwoord from the category. Thanks again Chris for the update.
does sablogawards not go through the nominations and check the sites and that they are valid? do they not check to see if they fit into the right categories? do they not notice the duplication of blogs?
it just looks sloppy, unprofessional and very embarrassing.
go check out the nominations and tell me i am wrong. oh and as i type this, their site just cannot handle the amount of traffic it is experiencing. surely you should have seen this coming?
if you are going to vote (whenever they decide to bring the site back up again), please vote for the following because they deserve it.
The Exclus1ve Best Entertainment Blog:
bangersandnash.com
The Best Post on a South African Blog:
6000.co.za/dear-uruguay
The Best New Blog:
capetowngirl.co.za
The Best Science and Technology Blog:
igeek.co.za
The Evox Advanced Nutrition Best Sports Blog:
SAcricketblog.com
The Best Indigenous Language Blog:
watkykjy.co.za
The Most Controversial Blog:
exmi.co.za
The Best Personal Blog:

The Ogilvy Twitter Microblogger of the Year:
twitter.com/robynhobson
The Ogilvy Best Media and Marketing Blog
integralwebsolutions.co.za/blog.aspx
The Best Company Blog:
rlabs.org
they deserve it. just do it and you might just make the SA Blog Awards seem ok this year.
just reading over this i noticed i came across nicer than i thought (no swear words what so ever, so does this classify as a rant?). if i had written this earlier this morning it would have been a full scale assault.

Very good points. I must admit that I did not have time to check out all the nominated blogs.
But you make a very valid point. How can a blog be nominated if it has been dormant for a year, let alone be in the new blog category.
BTW you missed out on a category: The Ogilvy Best Media and Marketing Blog:
Which I am nominated in. If you don’t have anyone you like in that category. Just saying.
Robert Bravery´s last blog ..Yay! I’m a finalist in the 2010 SA Blog awards Please vote for me

Hi Robert
thanks for the comment and sharing your views.
i have not seen your blog until today and will definitely give it a vote tomorrow (as one is only allowed to vote once a day).
another thing i do not like is the fact that you can nominated blogs again every day? keep it simple and vote once! amazing.

Hi there,
Just thought I would give you a heads up: http://www.parklife.za.net/ was a bad redirect, its fixed now.
dieantwoord.com was removed this morning (it had a ton of nominations but thought it had already been removed before the list went live)
baydu.co.za: I tracked down the owner and he says he had a malware attack on the site, he has cleaned it but waiting for google to unblock him. He is working on getting his site up again safely asap.
Best of luck for next year and if you have any questions feel free to mail me at chris(at)huddlemind.com
Have a wonderful day dear chap
p.s. Really enjoyed reading your blog, nice work

Hi Chris
Thanks for the kind words and also for taking the time to shed some light on those issues!
I’ll update my blog according

I agree with you 100% have a look at http://www.myjozi.co.za and tell me why I am not in the best new blog category? It’s because I have not asked ppl to vote for me. I was honest and posted the awards on the site and hoped for the best from my readers… I did not beg for votes as I am sure the finalists did.

Thanks for recommending my blog, appreciate it! You have some valid points, don’t see how blog that hasn’t posted anything in the last couple of month could have made it to the final round.
There are more deserving blogs for best new blog than wikus.

Yes, I noticed most of those while writing my post on it yesterday (link in my profile). The process was not thought out very well, maybe they will get it right next year.
Bryan Casson´s last blog ..SA Blog Awards Need a Better Nomination Process
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:48 am
Dale: i could ask you the same question about mine? i should be there too! but like i said, i don’t really care because tbh, the beginning process is flawed. it’s times like this that i really like controversy all because it brings together bloggers i never knew before, like you and others which means, more blogs to read. it’s a win win really?
Gerhard: it’s a pleasure, just keep doing what you keep doing!
Bryan: i just read your blog and comments and alot of the readers have valid points. i totally agree that maybe it should be go down to aggregaters like, afrigator, satopsites, alexa and sites like those to play a big part in it.

It seems that there will always be issues regarding the blog award process every year. As Monty says elsewhere, it will most likely take a few more years until it’s properly refined.
It almost seems like it would have made more sense for the JUDGES to nominate the blogs and then let the public / readers vote. That would have lead to a much fairer result in my opinion…
Anyways, enough ranting. All the best to the finalists!

Who cares. SA Blog awards are a joke. I bet there are so many fucking good sites which aren’t even featured there — because they don’t actually care what these guys have to say/do.
SA Blog Awards don’t care about what actually happens, they just like looking cool because they host something retards are interested in.
Well done on not begging for votes. You’re a winner already.
