you love to take pictures, you love to have those photos “your own” but unfortunately there are people out there that WILL use your photos for their personal gain be it promotional, say it’s theirs or for profit. this is just a short little one to explain how to protect your photos from these thieves.

there are a few services out their that when you upload photos you have the option to “protect” your photo from the “right-click and save” option. many people think this will stop them from doing this but alas, a screenshot won’t stop them from capturing your precious photos.

one of the best ways to protect your photos is with a thing called watermarking. watermarking a photo is when you embed an image or text into the image which cannot be removed in anyway without destroying the photo.

what alot of people do is put watermarks on the top or bottom of their photos like this:

watermark bottom

but the problem is, this can still be cut out and still cropped to make the photo “new” again.

the best way to combat that is to make the watermark in the center of the photo or make it as big as the photo and make it as transparent as possible. the watermark can be any text or image that might tie you, your name, business or logo to your photos to make it unique.

watermark center

so as you can see, when the watermark is center, to be able to take it out you have to destroy the photo.

i know it looks ugly but for me at least i know if someone does copy or take it, they will be sitting with that watermark on it. there might be software out there to remove this i don’t know as i have not done much research in watermark removal.
